Honestly, it’s been a great experience, and I really do believe in the process and what we’re trying to do… I think it’s awesome.This is its own thing, you know, there’s nothing else like Bonfire. I just like that my kids are more cognitive of what they are actually doing and thinking, paying more attention to how many hours I am on this, what else should I be doing besides just this.. Listening to Archer and Patrick have a conversation like they do every week, it’s awesome.They are actually in deep conversation about something cool, that they’re both interested in...it’s fun!
I would definitely recommend it cause I love talking about my week, and what I did. I’ve definitely stopped using my Xbox as much as I did, and began doing more activities. Me and Patrick (coach) would challenge each other with screen time….I was smart so...I beat him by 4 hours :)
I started enjoying it because we had some similar interests which was nice, so we bonded over that. Now I’ve got a better sleep schedule, am getting more exercise during the week, and I feel like my screen time has been cut down a little bit! I’d definitely recommend it, just for people to get a third person perspective or point of view of things that are going on in their life at the moment.
These past couple years has definitely been an adjustment, but having my coach has been a huge rock for me.
As soon as I heard about this program, I knew this is exactly what we needed to keep some peace of mind! I could tell that Gracie was starting to get very phone dependent, and not very responsive to my requests for more balanced usage. Over the past 20 years working with 1000s of students, I’ve seen a drastic increase in mental health concerns in children. Nothing is more inspiring than seeing kids flourish from having someone in their corner.
As a therapist and parent, I think it helps to view technology as we do our physical and mental health. We need to manage constant media exposure, monitor internet behaviors and set limits to instill good habits and improve balance for our children.
I love meeting with Kristen (coach) every week, it’s fun. She’s cool, and easy to talk to and has helped me to not use my phone as much.
I think it’s really beneficial for kids to have someone else to talk to besides their parents. We feel it’s been a really nice outlet for Henry to build a relationship with an adult he trusts and can talk about serious issues if he has to. It’s been important to be giving Henry a solid foundation. Because we all know about all the outside influencers that start coming up more in middle school. Growing up today is different, the second they get home, they go straight to the devices. They need to be constantly motivated, so another voice that he listens to has been awesome. Plus he doesn’t fight with me (as much!) taking his iPad away at night, which has definitely made life easier!
